WOMEN IN FOOTBALL

Breaking the Stereotypes About Female Football Fans

Being a female football fan, you’re faced with certain prejudices, the most common one being “Girls watch football only for eye-candy.” This is not going to be a blog post to prove those comments. For a moment I thought people really got used to women watching football, having their favourite teams, betting over football or whatsoever that involve football but honestly Men still use that stereotype mentality of “only men watch soccer/ only men play football” dude this is not our grandma’s generation, I am not interested in creating some absolute ranking. It may well be that there are more men who enjoy watching football than there are women. That’s not the point. As should be clear to every entity with any cognitive ability, women who enjoy watching football do exist. In significant numbers. Women who are knowledgeable about football also exist, shrill voices not withstanding.

Despite football stereotypically being seen as a qman’s game, more than half of the 5000 women polled said they were tuning into the tournament on a daily basis.

As with everything else, whether a person enjoys football or knows anything about it, cannot be determined by this person’s gender. I cannot believe that this isn’t a truth universally acknowledged in 2023, but based on my speculation I think men just be thinking women be like “okayy Its just a bunch of sweaty men, kicking a ball around! It goes on for 90 minutes and there are chances of no goals being scored at all. The referee’s can get biased and it’s not as great as they show in movies” and honestly women I mean women who really prefer football really be knowing what’s going on.

My Story as a Manchester United and Kaizer Chiefs fan

It’s not only men who make other women feel like they don’t deserve to watch soccer or watching soccer is for men only, some women end up saying thing’s like “woman watch soccer cause they want attention from men” like seriously?? Ya’ll be really thinking like that? Its sick!
Maybe its hard or rare to find women are really into soccer, Can't say about other girls, but you will find one here. I LOVE Football. Being a Manchester United fan also Kaizer Chiefs been my team since I was young, well my story is a little different. I am not going to disrespect the game by saying that I started watching it when I was bored. If anybody does something because they’re bored, they should go take a nap instead. Boredom is not appreciation.

Football is an art. Football should be appreciated.

I remember I was the only chiefs girl in my family the rest were bucks(Orlando Pirates) fan, back to the Red devils, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes got me hooked to this game.
When the season is on, every weekend is just loud and noisy at our place. Plus having a family where one is a Manchester city fan, Dortmund and Chelsea fan…another is a Ronaldo die hard fan and I’m Messie die hard fan.

Though I prefer EPL over all others, I also  catch La Liga and Serie A games. Every transfer window has personal feelings attached to it. Its 90 minutes of pure adrenaline rush. Football is the only sport that has me this hooked to it. Those 90 minutes or more of the ball’s symphony are breathtaking. There’s so much to football than it just being a buffer till your show comes on TV.

I literally had tears of joy when Spain won the world cup and I cried a lot when England was knocked off the Qatar world cup but was thrille
d when Argentina won. Not being a judge of it a lot of girls like Football because of Messi or Ronaldo.

I think the number of girls who actually follow or understand football is quite less maybe thats why men think football doesn’t really matter to us It's like loving cricket because of Virat Kohli: you love the sport because he looks good (yeah he really look good though) , Don't understand a thing about the sport itself.

So can we please just stop making these tired jokes and rehashing old stereotypes? I honestly cannot think of anyone who would find it amusing these days (if you know people like that, I suggest never speaking to them again).
